Loren Smith’s exceptional background blends marketing and new product development for leading financial and consumer product corporations. Over the past 30 years, Loren has divided his time between generating successful new strategies and ideas for growth for clients and running large pieces of businesses at the client’s request.
During his distinguished career, Loren has served as chief executive officer of two “turnaround” businesses, including a $6.2 billion financial institution. Additionally, he has held senior management positions with Citibank, Colgate-Palmolive and General Foods/Kraft. Loren also served as chief marketing officer for the U.S. Postal Service and was one of five senior managers that comprised the executive committee responsible for running that $65 billion enterprise. Most recently, Loren was president and chief operating officer of Stamps.com, an Internet-based mail and shipping company that went public in 1999.
Among Loren’s specialties are meeting facilitation (particularly strategic planning and new idea/product development), strategic planning process management, and marketing organization structure and process.
Loren serves on the boards of Veritram, Inc. and Threshold Sports, LLC.
Loren is also active in the nonprofit area. He is past chairman of the board of the Council for Basic Education, a Washington, DC-based organization dedicated to the improvement of US public schools. He has been a moderator for the Aspen Institute and is active in several not-for-profits in Taos, NM where he lives. While in Chicago, Loren served as vice chairman and chair elect for United Way and co-chair of Chicago United, a business leaders civic organization.
